Let me start with what matters most – our children's future. Our rural schools are being shortchanged while politicians play politics with education funding. I've seen teachers leaving our communities because they can't afford to stay. I've watched our kids fall behind because their schools don't have the resources they need.
That stops now. I will fight to fully fund our public schools, create real incentives for teachers to work in rural districts, and expand broadband so our children can access the same opportunities as kids in Phoenix or Tucson. Every child deserves a quality education, no matter their zip code.
Here in Arizona, we know that water isn't just important – it's everything. But right now, rural communities are watching their wells run dry while distant developments fill swimming pools and water lawns. That's not simply wrong – it's unsustainable.
I will protect existing water rights for our farmers and ranchers. I will ensure that new developments prove they have long-term water sources before they break ground. And I will invest in conservation technology that helps us use every drop wisely. Our agricultural economy depends on it. Our families depends on it.
We need real border security, not political theater. I support investing in technology and personnel to secure our border. But I also know that our agricultural economy depends on workers who come here legally to do jobs that keep our rural communities thriving. We can be both secure and practical. We can protect our border while recognizing that comprehensive immigration reform – with pathways to legal status – serves Arizona's interests. That's not politics talking – that's common sense. We can have a secure and humane border.
In rural Arizona, firearms are part of our heritage and our way of life. We hunt, we protect our livestock, and we defend our families. I respect the 2nd amendment, and I will always defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners. We can protect our rights, respect the Constitution while keeping our communities and children safe. That means common sense measures like ensuring people who shouldn’t have guns cannot get them. We need to make sure background check systems actually work.
Democracy works best when everyone can participate. But some politicians would rather choose their voters than let voters choose them. They gerrymander districts. They make it harder for people to vote, especially in rural communities like ours. I will defend every eligible citizen's right to vote. I will support transparent government that works for you, not special interests. And I will end the gerrymandering that divides our communities and silences our voices.
I'm not running to be another partisan politician. I'm running to be your independent voice in the State Senate. That means I'll work with anyone – Democrat or Republican – if they have good ideas that help Arizona families. And it means I'll stand up to anyone – regardless of party – if they're wrong.
